‘The Giver’ by Lois Lowry

The Giver is a 1993 American young adult dystopian novel by Lois Lowry.

The Giver won the 1994 Newbery Medal and has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. In Australia, Canada, and the United States, it is on many middle school reading lists, but it is also frequently challenged and it ranked number 11 on the American Library Association list of the most challenged books of the 1990s. A 2012 survey based in the U.S. designated it the fourth-best children’s novel of all time.

In 2014, a film adaptation was released, starring Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and Brenton Thwaites.

‘20000 Leagues Under the Sea’ by Jules Verne

20000 Leagues Under the Sea is a classic science fiction novel by French writer Jules Verne published in 1870.

The book was highly acclaimed when released and still is now; it is regarded as one of the premiere adventure novels and one of Verne’s greatest works, along with Around the World in Eighty Days and Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

‘The War of the Worlds’ by H. G. Wells

The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by English author H. G. Wells first serialised in 1897 in the UK by Pearson’s Magazine and in the US by Cosmopolitan magazine. The novel’s first appearance in hardcover was in 1898 from publisher William Heinemann of London. Written between 1895 and 1897, it is one of the earliest stories that detail a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race.
